(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Supreme Court is inviting applications from individuals interested in serving as appointed members of the Illinois State Public Defender Commission. The court said people appointed must have significant experience defending indigent clients in criminal or juvenile proceedings and must demonstrate a commitment to public service and understanding of the legal system. The Commission is scheduled to take effect on next year, on January 1st, 2027.

(CHICAGO) The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois has announced internal reforms to grand jury practices and disclosures, days after the office dismissed charges against protesters who were arrested outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Broadview last year. The office moved to dismiss the indictment after learning of “certain conduct” by the government in the grand jury. Officials say the new process will now be more transparent and effective while greatly reducing the likelihood of mistakes.

(SPRINGFIELD) With the November 3rd, 2026 General Election now nearly five months away, Independent gubernatorial candidate Collin Corbett has filed petitions to challenge Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker and Republican Darren Bailey. Corbett is a former Republican who said this past Tuesday that the GOP nominated someone who has no shot of winning in the General Election in November. Some are calling for several debates to be held between the candidates.
