(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Commerce Commission has decreased the amount of utility rate requests submitted by the state’s two largest providers in the state. The ICC has struck $25.4 million from ComEd’s $268.5 million 2024 rate reconciliation request. An ICC statement says the ComEd decision was due to the electric company’s overrun costs and mismanagement. In a separate decision, the ICC struck $11.2 million from Ameren Illinois’ 59.6 million request.
(CHICAGO) The Chicago Bears say the team’s efforts to build a new stadium in Illinois have been met with no legislative partnership in Springfield. In a letter posted on the Bear’s website, company President and CEO Kevin Warren said the team would expand its search to include northwestern Indiana. While the team has not asked for state taxpayer dollars to build a stadium in Arlington Heights, it is seeking s commitment for local infrastructure and property tax cuts.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is accepting applications for federal Volunteer Fire Assistance grants now through February 16th, 2026. Passed through the State DNR to aid statewide fire departments, the federal funds are used for training and to purchase new equipment. The program this year funded 48 projects worth $322,893.
(SPRINGFIELD) Hunters in Illinois took a preliminary total of 81,225 deer during the seven day 2025 Illinois firearm deer season that ended December 7th. That’s a 1.5% drop from the 82,496 deer harvested a year ago. The final seven-day Late Winter Firearm Season runs January 1st through 4th and January 16th through 18th, but only in 30 of Illinois’ 102 counties, including Jasper, Crawford, Coles, Effingham, Fayette, Clay, Marion, Jefferson, and Hamilton.
