OCC STUDENT DOES WEEK IN REGIONAL CONTEST

(OLNEY) Congratulations to an Olney Central College student for recently winning a prestigious competition. Freshman Jacob Kimbro, of Flora, captured first place in the Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center Welding Competition, becoming the first OCC student to earn top honors in the Nix Industrial-sponsored event. During the contest, participants were challenged to complete plate tests and stick welds within a 45-minute time limit and evaluated by Certified Welding Instructors, Kimbro was competing against 30 to 40 other welders. The Clay County young man plans to join the Boilermakers’ Union and continue advancing in the field of welding once he graduates from OCC. The Welding Program at Olney Central College, within the IECC Community College District, is headed up by OCC Instructor Maverick Fisher.
