REGULAR BI-MONTHLY MEETING THIS WEEK

(NEWTON) The Newton City Council met in regular session earlier this week on Tuesday night. The Council : accepted the $102,672 bid submitted by Fletcher Reinhardt for the Electric Line D Material Project : approved the $75,762 purchase of a 2024 Caterpillar Backhoe Loader with the cost to be split 50/50 between the City’s Electric and Street Departments : approved the $36,000 quote from Fenceworx for the ETCG fencing project at the Newton pickleball courts : on a 5 to 1 vote, approved a three-year Planned Maintenance Agreement with Cummins Sales & Service for full inspection and load bank testing of City generators located at City Hall, the Sewer Plant, and the Water Plant worth $15,432 : approved the Electric Department purchase of twenty-three (23) transformers of various types for a total cost of $53,702 : approved the $29,880 purchase of two poly coated culverts for the replacement of the bridge on South Lafayette Street : approved the $4,000 cost for needed work at the Newton Aquatic Center : accepted the letter of resignation from Sean Brody : approved the appointment of all Committee Chairmen and Members : and after a 63-minute closed session, agree to table the appointment of City Department Heads until the next regular meeting, which will be held May 19th, 2026, at the Newton City Hall.
