(NEWTON) The Jasper County School Board of Education met last night for its regular monthly meeting in Newton. The Board : approved the payment of all bills for March as presented : had an overview and discussion of District handbook changes for the 2026-2027 school year : also discussed the application for the 2026 Energy Transition Grant for the District : agreed to seek bids for air conditioner units for the 1999 building addition and mini splits at the Newton Elementary School : agreed to seek bids for a Newton Community High School plumbing and bathroom project through Health Life Safety work : approved an agreement with OPPA renewal for the 2026-2027 school year : and in personnel – approved the retirement resignations from JCJH English Teacher Amy Harris and JCJH Math Teacher Deb Weiler, both effective at the end of the 2028-2029 school year – approved the retirement resignation from NCHS Cook Susan Niemerg at the end of the 2026-2027 school year – approved resignations from NCHS Teacher Cathryn Homan, NES Counselor Abby E. Jansen, and NES Yearbook Sponsor Jamie Martin – agreed to hire Autumn Peddycoart as NES Fulltime Sub, Kelsey Deadmond as JCJH Counselor for 2026-2027 school year, David Murphy as NES Cook, Ryan Meinhart as NCHS Head Soccer Coach, and Brooklyn Herman, Taylor Gray, Abby M. Jansen, and Ashley McLeod all as Summer Bridge Teachers & Substitutes – and agreed to advertise for three (3) summer help workers as well as other listed positions : the next regular monthly meeting for the Jasper County School Board will be May 18th, 2026.
